The City has named Bruce Green as the Interim Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Manager. Green will serve as Interim until the positions are filled. The City anticipates the search will take approximately three months.
Green is a native of Valdosta, Georgia and has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Valdosta State and Masters work in Secondary Education. At 25, he served as a City Councilman in Remerton, Georgia. He previously served as Main Street Manager in the City of Tifton, where he coordinated a successful revitalization program for over eight years, which eventually led to Tifton being recognized as one of the Best Small Towns in America.
Green then moved to Atlanta to work as the Director of the Office of Downtown Development with the Georgia Municipal Association. Following GMA, he served as the Director of Communications, Research and Rural Development with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. He then created his own consulting company – Bruce Green & Associates.
Currently retired, Bruce most recently served as the Director of Tourism Product Development with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, where he worked with communities, private corporations and non-profits across Georgia to increase investment in and development of new tourism product.
According to City Manager, Pete Pyrzenski, “Green will provide professional oversight to the Main Street office, provide guidance to the DDA Board, assist with pending projects and further establish our relationships at the State level for continued growth in the Downtown area.”
The City is excited about the addition of Green to the staff and looks forward to the contributions he will add to the Downtown Development office and the board.
