PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The City of Tifton has qualified a designated area for Georgia’s job tax credits. The opportunity zone incentive is available for new and existing businesses within the zone that create two or more jobs. The business may be eligible to receive tax credits up to $3,500 per job created. The tax credit can be taken against the business’s Georgia income tax liability and payroll withholding tax. Tifton’s Opportunity Zone Designation Period begins January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2031

Jobs must meet the below criteria to be eligible:

  • Must be permanent full-time jobs working a minimum of 35 hours per week;
  • Must pay in excess of the lowest average wage of any county in the state; and
  • Must be offered health insurance upon employment, although the employer is not required to pay for such insurance.
