FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AUGUST 27, 2025
TIFTON, Ga. – Tifton Fire Department is celebrating over two years with the Work-Based Learning program (WBL) through Tift County High School (TCHS).
Tifton Fire partners with the WBL program to allow for TCHS students to obtain their Firefighter Certification and training equivalent to the Firefighter I program upon high school graduation. The mission of the WBL program is to assist in providing a highly trained, technologically sophisticated, and career oriented young work force.
TCHS accomplishes this by developing partnerships between business, industry, students, parents, coordinators, school systems, and post-secondary institutions which will lead the participating student into meaningful careers.
Tifton Fire Department’s WBL program is provided at no-cost to the students, and can potentially lead participants to a full-time job with benefits upon graduation.
Tifton Fire Chief Bobby Bennett believes the WBL program is Tifton Fire Department’s way of investing in our future.
Tifton Fire Department began working with TCHS’ WBL program in January of 2023, and since then has gained three new firefighters that were trained and ready to serve upon receiving their high school diplomas. Tifton Fire Department’s WBL program will have approximately four participants beginning this October.
Special thanks to Caleb Smith and Macy Thorne, WBL Coordinators, for partnering with Tifton Fire Department to equip these students with skills that will last a lifetime.
The Tifton Fire Department strives to prevent disaster as much as humanly possible through code enforcement, public education and fire prevention activities. It is our vision that mitigation of all incidents is conducted in a prompt, caring and professional manner. As part of our vision, we will always consider the support, development, health and safety of our employees as vital to the success of our mission and vision.
